UWF Singers
Wardrobe 2023-24
To best accommodate new members of the choir, and in an effort to be increasingly mindful of inclusivity, what follows is the UWF Singers Wardrobe Guidelines. Choirs have a long history of striving for a uniform look, but professional choral organizations around the world are embracing the equally important need for individual expression. It is our desire that every body-shape, identity, and personality will be fully confident in how they present themselves while performing. To achieve our choral uniformity, rather than a tailored approach, we embrace a color-palate and parameters approach. Singers are encouraged to assemble an outfit that makes them feel confident within the following guidelines:
Primary color: Black [Your chosen attire could be all black]
Secondary color, if desired: Royal Blue (UWF Blue) …color swatch will be provided
Tertiary color, if desired, and kept minimal: White
Accents, if desired: Silver
Such performance attire may include:

To best accommodate new members of the choir, and in an effort to be increasingly mindful of inclusivity, what follows is the UWF Singers Wardrobe Guidelines.
- Black slacks, dress, or skirt past the knees. Pants, dress, or skirt should be hemmed to at least 1” off the floor when in dress shoes.
- Royal blue dress purchased previously for UWF Singers (dress from 2019 and earlier).
- Black (preferred) or Royal blue (also okay) shirt or blouse. The shirt/blouse must not be significantly low-cut. Sleeves may be full length, ¾-length, ½-length, or capped sleeve. No sleeveless. A white shirt may be selected but, in that case, please cover with a black suit-coat, jacket, or sweater, so white remains a tertiary color when presented.
- Ties may be worn, if desired, but not necessary. Black, white, or Royal Blue. May incorporate a pattern within those colors.
- Black or Royal Blue closed-toe dress shoe (flat to 2-inch). Select something that will enable you to stand for long periods of time. Seated accommodations will be made for those who request.
- If worn, socks should be black. Hose is optional – if worn, must be flesh colored (nude) or darker.
- Silver jewelry, kept minimal, if desired – please, nothing excessively flashy or dangly. Jewelry may also incorporate white, blue, or black.
Additional:
- General appearance should be neat and groomed
- No scents of any kind
- Please, no sequins. Let your eyes, and possibly the jewelry, be the source of sparkle
- Hair pulled back from face (at least ½ up, or pulled back)
- A touch of make-up may be desired for facial definition under performance lights
- Black performance folder is required of all
Process:
- Approval process: Our Wardrobe Manager, TBD, will give a “pass” for all wardrobe decisions. We would like to get an idea of consistency well before the concert date. NEW MEMBERS OF THE CHOIR must submit a photo of your chosen attire by September 15 to [email protected] (our first performance is October 7) to allow sufficient time for proper review and feedback.
- Notice: The previously used royal blue dress and/or tuxedo/vest will work in this scenario. Returning members should not feel obligated to acquire new attire.
- The UWF Singers has a small inventory of dresses, vests, or jackets from previous seasons. If interested, contact the Wardrobe Manager (TBD) to arrange a fitting. Dresses, vests, or jackets can be loaned for an entire semester with no fee or costs.
- Word of advice: See the following dress shoes. Your chosen attire should fit the style of these shoe examples, though you may certainly choose something more comfortable instead. Use these shoes for reference when styling your outfit, though more casual (comfortable) shoes may certainly be worn.
